Introduction >>Why Alsiganteku?

Why Alsiganteku?

Alsiganteku is the original Abenakis Indian name for the Saint Francois River. They occupied this area and named the river Alsiganteku which means "river of shells and algae".

The Saint Francois River was one of the principal routes taken by the Abenakis from New England to the Saint Lawrence River. Its course passes through a vast territory that was used for hunting, fishing and trapping by the Abenakis who belonged to the great Algonquins people.

We choose the name Alsiganteku for its historical significance and to pay homage to First Nations who invented the kayak making it possible for us to offer you the great pleasure of its use to explore the Saint Francois River and Lake Saint Pierre.
